It was a very busy time at Dumble Farm today. All our conservation grazers came back to the farm for their regular fly treatments, plus all the breeding females had a vaccination against Bluetongue.
Bluetongue is a nasty virus spread by biting midges and effects ruminants like cows, goats and sheep.
The illness can cause nasty crusty erosions and discharge around the cows nose and cause her to abort or give birth to a calf with deformities, blindness or death after a few days.

Of course we don’t want to risk this happening to our cows, so to keep them safe we have vaccinated them today, in three weeks time they will all get a second injection

All done and they are heading back to the field.

The weather is very warm and the cows are thirsty by the time they get back into their fields. Fergus is such a cheeky boy, he decided to pop under the fence for a drink halfway home, this year’s calves are so cute and confident!
