Take a hands-on Highland Cow Safari on the Dumble Bus, to meet all the Highland cows here at Dumble Farm. We currently have 30 breeding females and approximately 75 Highlands in total. 

Our farmer led hands-on safaris start at the farm, where guests first get to meet, stroke and brush all our cute, fluffy year old Highland cows. These young Highlands are very friendly and love being fussed over by our guests, you can brush their dossen(fringe), scratch their chins, (they love chin scratches!) and get lots of photos.

Then board the Dumble bus, ride into the grassy meadows and get up close to our main Fold of majestic Highland Cows and their adorable fluffy calves. You’ll be able to feed the cows from the trailer, and from this raised viewpoint get a great overview of the whole Fold. There will be plenty of time to photograph these magnificent cows with their dramatic horns, long flowing coats and cute dossens (fringes) tumbling over their faces. The knowledgeable Dumble Farm farmers will tell you facts about the breed, you can learn their names and all about their different personalities.

Water and wildlife go together, so Dumble Farm is going wet and wild with an extensive conservation project. In the new wet grassland area, you will discover the way the Highland cows munch grass creates the right habitat for declining bird species to successfully breed.  Closer to the farm we will learn about our new developing habitat areas. Alongside new trees, hedges, flower meadows and nesting boxes, we are providing other homes for many of our much-loved native wildlife species, which we’ll talk about throughout the tour.

Travel through an area known as Arram Carrs, once a deep marshy bog steeped in superstition, where you’ll hear the story of Tiddy Mun, chief spirit of the marshland, and how he was angered when the marshes were drained.

Then we head back to the farm. We finish off with tea/coffee and Farmer Fi’s  home baked cakes, made with many ingredients grown here on the farm. There is plenty of time while you have a brew, to have a friendly chat with the Dumble Farm farmers, who will be happy to answer any of your questions about the cows, conservation or their farming lives here in East Yorkshire.

This hands-on adventure is on a purpose-built tractor and trailer, which is fully weatherproof with comfy seats.

Over 16’s only, under 18’s must be accompanied by a paying adult.
