If you join the Dumble Farm farmers for a calf handling session, expect a very special and unique hands-on experience.

Calf handling requires good levels of fitness and mobility.

We start with an introduction, where you will learn about the history of the farm and the Dumble Farm conservation project, gaining knowledge about why we have Highland cattle here, this will be followed by a safety briefing.

First, get ready to strike a pose! As our guests get a photo shoot with one of our young highland cows in our photo booth!

Then the main event, getting to meet, stroke, brush and cuddle our 7 month old super cute fluffy Highland calves! You will spend time socialising the calves, gaining their trust, giving them cuddles and grooming them. As the calves progress we will show you how to halter them, we will lead them for short distances, walking with them in preparation for future handling.

Some calves are more confident than others, so we will work with them according to the stage they are at on the day of your visit, but they always love to be fussed over!

Next we’ll meet feed and stroke all our yearling in the shed. These young Highlands are about a year older. They love being fed snacks and getting attention from our guests!

But the hands-on part of the tour doesn’t end there, you’ll also get to meet and cuddle our super friendly fussy goats!

We finish off with tea/coffee and Farmer Fi’s  home baked cakes, made with many ingredients grown here on the farm. There is plenty of time while you have a brew, to have a friendly chat with the Dumble Farm farmers, who will be happy to answer any of your questions about the cows, conservation or their farming lives here in East Yorkshire.

Once the experience is over, guests are welcome to go and see the young highlands in the shed, or go for a walk around our fields to see the cows and wildlife here at Dumble Farm.
