If you join the Dumble Farm farmers for a calf handling session, expect a very special and unique hands-on learning experience.

Firstly you will learn about the history of the farm and the conservation project, gaining knowledge about why we have Highland cattle here at Dumble Farm, this will be followed by a safety briefing.

Then the main event, getting to meet, stroke, brush and cuddle our super cute fluffy Highland calves! You will spend time socialising the calves, gaining their trust, giving them cuddles and grooming them. As the calves progress we will show you how to halter them, we will lead them for short distances, walking with them in preparation for future handling and showing.

Some calves are more confident than others, so we will work with them according to the stage they are at on the day of your visit, but they always love to be fussed over!

Next we’ll board the Dumble bus and head off on a safari to meet our main fold of Highland cows, with their dramatic horns, long flowing coats and cute dossans (fringes). You’ll learn all about the vital part they play in habitat creation. You’ll also be able to feed and stroke the cows from the trailer, and there will be plenty more photo opportunities.

We finish off with tea/coffee and Farmer Fi’s  home baked cakes, made with many ingredients grown here on the farm. There is plenty of time while you have a brew, to have a friendly chat with the Dumble Farm farmers, who will be happy to answer any of your questions about the cows, conservation or their farming lives here in East Yorkshire.

This experience will take 2 1/2 – 3 hours.

Over 16’s only (under 18’s must be accompanied by a paying adult)
