cow cuddling & Highland cow experience
Cow Cuddling & Highland cow experience.
The UK's best cow experience!
We will be stopping cow cuddling during the summer months. Here at Dumble Farm we like to provide the best experience possible and when the weather gets hotter and there are more flies the cuddle cows don’t settle quite as well, so after June we’ll start cuddling again in the autumn.
Â
Over 16’s only, under 18’s must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Â
These farmer-led tours do require good levels of mobility, as we encourage our guests to sit down against the cows. So, if you are unable to sit on the ground and get up again easily, we would recommend one of our other experiences. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
Â
After arriving at Dumble Farm, you will have an introductory talk, where you will learn about the history of the farm and the conservation project, this will be followed by a safety briefing.
Â
First we will bring some of our super cute fluffy young Highland cows out on halters, for you to meet, groom, and cuddle. The young Highlands are very friendly and love being fussed over by our guests! You will learn all about your new furry friends, combing their hair, giving them chin scratches (they love chin scratches!), getting to know their different personalities and of course getting plenty of photos.Â
Â
Next, you will be introduced to our friendly cuddle cows! These are a mixture of breeds, including retired dairy cows, Highland crosses and 2 of our Highland boys.
Â
The cuddle cows are very affectionate! While they lie down quietly, they enjoy the company of friendly people, cuddling, brushing and stroking them. You can sit up against them and take time to relax, listening to their cuddling and sensing their gentle nature, and while they are stood up you can brush and stroke them (the cows will nearly always be lying down but we can’t guarantee this, so cuddling experiences may vary).
Â
Then we board the Dumble bus and head off on a safari to meet our main fold of Highland cows, with their dramatic horns, long flowing coats and cute dossans (fringes). You’ll be able to feed the cows from the trailer, and from this raised viewpoint get a great overview of the whole Fold while learning all about the vital part they play in habitat creation. There will of course be plenty more photo opportunities!
Â
Afterwards you’ll meet our fussy goats, they love cuddles and are always playful and wanting attention.Â
Â
We finish off with tea/coffee and Farmer Fi’s home baked cakes, made with many ingredients grown here on the farm. There is plenty of time while you have a brew, to have a friendly chat with the Dumble Farm farmers, who will be happy to answer any of your questions about the cows, conservation or their farming lives here in East Yorkshire.
